Who ya' talking' to?

talking to God

(Influenced by the sermon series at Agape House New Testament Church this Month)

Intelligence gets in the way of praying to God sometimes. We are wired by default to try and fix things ourselves, and while we are at it, we  drown in the fear of the unknown outcome.

  • How do i fix this?
  • How can i get out of this?
  • How do i reach my goals?
  • How do i pay my debts?
  • Who do i talk to about this?
  • Who can help me?

Have you considered talking to God? I agree, it doesn't come naturally in the beginning. Can i really have a two-way conversation with God? To be honest, sometimes i struggle with this too.

God is not as abstract as we have conditioned our mind to believe. He does not just want to be your helper and your go-to-person when in dying need for a miracle. He wants to be your friend, your laughing partner, your gossip partner, your best friend. When all hope is lost and i cry out to God, seeking for his wisdom to deal with specific problems, he is ready to work with me to effect solutions.

Sometimes i forget that God loves me so dearly. I mean! He gave his life for my redemption.

Psalm 136:2-3 “Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.”

Romans 8:38-39 “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow–not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below–indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Fixing my problems and giving me good counsel is easy meat for God to chew.

When next you are in dire need for someone to talk to, remember you are not alone, and you have a best friend in the Holy Spirit. He enjoys having you in his presence and is always eager to talk to you.

This popular hymn comes to mind (well, it was sang in church right before the sermon, so yeah..)

  1. What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
      Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
      Everything to God in prayer!

  1. Have we trials and temptations?
      Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

  1. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge—
      Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
      Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Today, i pray you make God your best friend, even when you are not in need, more importantly when you are lost and not sure what to do, keep on praying and know that God is always there for you.
