I believe that as a person you have all the opportunities to become who you wish to be. You have it within your power to change your life and achieve great things, but first you must rid yourself of any limitations that are self-imposed.
To realize our full potential, we need to create a life where nothing is holding us back from growing. Growth is self-imposed, and the limitations we all face are self-imposed, too. No one else holds you back but yourself.
I used to get upset when life would throw a new challenge my way. I’ve learned that self-imposed limitations are much harder to overcome than the ones forced upon us by the universe.
Limitations are things that prevent us from doing what we want and they come in many different forms. The limitations I’m talking about here are self-imposed – limitations we place on ourselves because we’re afraid of failure or success.
Don’t stop yourself from becoming something wonderful. Dissatisfaction with what you are currently doing leads to attitude problems and worse . Think about the things you could be doing instead, and never settle.
It’s up to you to make the most of your abilities and opportunities, because no one else can do that for you. The opportunities are constantly around us. It just takes some effort on your part, a lot of hard work, and a little luck. Don’t let anyone tell you who you are or what you can do–not even your parents or your teachers. Listen to advice and accept it when it makes sense, but at the end of the day you must choose what path to follow. Be open-minded enough to see new opportunities and learn rapidly from your experiences, but don’t be afraid to embrace change. Nothing stands still forever; even if you feel like a failure right now, it’s just a temporary setback on the road to success. Learn from defeat, don’t give up hope, and always strive for improvement.”
Millions of lives that would have been filled with joy and success have been marred by defeat and failure. Never repeat the mistakes of others, learn from their failures and be inspired by their successes.
You can take the path of least resistance. You can let others tell you who you are, what you should do and where you should go. Or you can decide for yourself and be true to who you really are.
Examples of Self Imposed Limitations:
Procrastination is a self-imposed limitation that stops us from developing as we want. In its most extreme form, it is a way of living where you don’t do what you know you should do. When we procrastinate, we turn away from the things that would make our lives better because they seem too difficult or unpleasant. We imagine escaping into some other world in an attempt to avoid the one we have created for ourselves.
Procrastination is a self-imposed limitation that stems from a lack of discipline & motivation. Almost all people have the capability to do some things well, but procrastination prevents us from achieving our full potential. Procrastination is killing you slowly – It reduces your chances in life as well as takes away many precious moments of your life that you will never get back again!
The problem with procrastination is not the task you are putting off, but the mental barrier that you are erecting between yourself and the task.
Procrastination is the thief of time. When you procrastinate you are really doing something else. Your unconscious goal is to be distracted, and you often achieve it. True procrastinators are likely to spend large amounts of their life doing things that are not what they claim to be doing, because they feel that the more time they spend pretending to work on a task, the less bad they will feel about the fact that they have avoided working on that task.
It is time to stop blaming others for what happens to you and time to start taking responsibility for your own life. In order to ‘live’ our lives and be happy, we need to accept that there are things that are beyond our control, but ultimately we are responsible for who we become; therefore, it’s up to us to be the person who lives the life we want. So, the first step in being comfortable with being alive is learning how to take responsibility for our own actions.
The main problem you always have to face is yourself. The situations you go through are a direct result of your own actions. You bounce off other people or other things and then blame them for how it all turns out.
Blame is a convenient excuse for your own inabilities and lack of effort to do what it takes to get what you want.
I know people who blame other people for everything. No matter what has happened to them, they are always able to find someone or something else responsible.
Your life events are a result of your previous thoughts, words, and actions. They are also the mental sparks which trigger events in your future. You can’t really control anything but your own thoughts. That’s what it means to have free will.
No one can make you feel anything without your permission.
Self-pity is an assumed sad and helpless state of affairs.
Self-pity is one of the most insidious human emotions. We tend to naturally feel sorry for ourselves when something goes wrong in our life. Inevitably, nothing goes right every once in a while, but self-pity makes that feeling last and last. The smallest obstacles are magnified, our thoughts and actions become more negative and we impose increasingly severe limitations on our own potential.
You need to take the time to figure out what you want and be patient with yourself. Remember the fundamentals. Then make sure you’re standing in a position to move forward–if necessary, reorganize your life to do it. And never forget that patience is just as important as action.
Some people don’t want to gain perspective on themselves because they don’t want the journey to end. When you talk about yourself, you have an endless supply of material. Every sentence you say has some implication for how you believe others see you and by extension should perceive you.
When we are in self-pity mode it is impossible to think about anything objectively. We see ourselves as the victim and everything else as an injustice or offence. The ‘self’ we identify with becomes enormously expanded and overdetermined until it takes up all the mental real estate, leaving no space for anything else.
Most of us have been in a crucial situation where it seemed that everything is stacked against us, life is too hard. In such times we tend to look at our misfortunes as an insurmountable obstacle too threatening, rather than a temporary hurdle to jump over. Not only do we then overlook strengths, abilities and choices that we could exercise, but we also feel helpless and become paralyzed.

One of the biggest problems we face, as human beings, is that we have this nasty habit of thinking too small. We ought to be living our lives in a 10,000-foot-altitude kind of way. But instead, day after day, we get “caught up” in our smaller concerns–the petty frustrations of everyday life.
Show up, apply yourself, get help when you need it, and accept failure as an option. You don’t have to experience a life-changing epiphany or some sort of revelation. Everyone’s path to success is different.
Commit yourself to grow and develop yourself in some area
Make a five-year plan for personal growth. Set goals for the next five years and have a real action plan with steps and positive habits that should lead you to your goals.
Live in the Present:
Not everything that happed in the past needs to be remembered and thought about in order to inform what happens next in our lives. Learning from the past is great, but we don’t want past experiences to dominate our entire present lives! We don’t want anxiety we’ve already dealt with continually popping up in a loop of fear stuck on repeat, exhaustion rebuilding itself over and over again, regret showing up at every turn
